Thomas Steven

Thomas is an Associate in the firm's Corporate, Commercial and Investment Practice Group. He previously worked at a prominent corporate law firm associated with a London-based leading international law firm, Linklaters, during which he has advised a long list of multinational companies including ByteDance (TikTok), Walt Disney, FWD Group Holdings and Kasikorn Vision Financial Company.

Thomas has advised on many complex and strategic corporate transactions in the financial services (banking, insurance, multifinance and fintech), consumer markets, FMCG, logistics, telco and technology industries, including advising foreign investors in relation to their strategic market entry, regulatory compliance and procurement of licenses in Indonesia as well as multifaceted matters related to manpower, antitrust and personal data protection. He also acts for domestic and international corporates on various corporate restructurings, spin-off, business transfer, joint ventures and legal due diligence.

Among major deals in his extensive M&A experience in the technology and fintech industries, Thomas successfully assisted ByteDance (TikTok) on the acquisition of a majority stake in PT Tokopedia from PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk. He also counseled Kasikorn Vision Financial Company, one of the largest Thailand financial institutions, on the USD 186.5 million acquisition of majority shares in PT Bank Maspion Indonesia Tbk, and supported FWD Group Holdings Limited, a leading Hong Kong-based insurance company, on the shares acquisition of PT Asuransi BRI Life.

Other noteworthy transactions in the telco sector where he was involved include advising DigitalBridge Group Inc, a global digital infrastructure investment firm, on the acquisition of approximately 4,000 telecommunication towers owned by PT Indosat Tbk through its subsidiary PT EPID Menara Assetco, as well as the acquisition of a majority stake in PT Centratama Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk.
